Utilitarianism by John Stuart Mill

Utilitarianism by John Stuart MillUtilitarianism by John Stuart Mill is a milestone in ethics and philosophy. John Stuart Mill’s manifest presents a system of thought and action that declares that the morally right action is the action that results in the most good, happiness or less suffering. This approach to ethics actually dates back Epicurus, who writes about ‘the greatest amount of good for the greatest number’. Utilitarianism is today a philosophy deeply rooted in society. Utilitarianism first appeared as a series of three articles published in Fraser’s Magazine in 1861 and the book is now in the Public Domain.

“It is better to be a human being dissatisfied than a pig satisfied; better to be Socrates dissatisfied than a fool satisfied.”
